Why invest in massage?

For more than 15 years I’ve explored what was once only seen as a form of holistic therapy (massage).  However slowly the Western world is now beginning to acknowledge and combine it with traditional medical treatments.

Massage can be a powerful tool to help you take charge of your own health and well-being journey. In many other cultures, massage has always been a fundamental part of curing or alleviating pain and illness.  In Malaysia the post-natal ritual for women is 30 days of rest, wholesome nutrient dense food and massage every day, to aid recovery postpartum.

When leading a very busy life, it is easy to neglect ourselves and think that massage is just some luxury thing at the end of our list of things to do.

It is often only when your body decides to give in, or is in a lot of pain, that you will begin to understand and appreciate the true power of massage!!

There are so many different types of massage which range from light to deep pressure. Common types of massage include:

Swedish

Deep tissue

Sports

Trigger point massage

There are so many benefits of massage. Massage can have a huge impact on reducing stress, pain and muscle tension.  Other benefits are:

Improved circulation

Lymphatic drainage

Reduce stress hormones

Increased mobility and flexibility

Relaxation

Improved skin tone

It also can support chronic diseases, and life threatening illness such as cancer.

Through my massage journey I have also learnt pre and post-natal massage. The massage I learnt can really benefit a female during the pre-natal trimesters, by alleviating muscular tension from postural change.  It is also essential for postpartum recovery.  In France they do a thorough check postpartum, but in England there seems to be a lack of support and knowledge post-natal. Through massage and a particular technique with a IAM tool, you can aid diastasis or c-section recovery.  It is really a key and often missed part of the journey.  I have had many women come to me… often uninformed in this area.

I will continue my journey as a masseuse constantly perfecting and trying new techniques.  I love the connection with clients when they become more in-tune and begin to understand how connected the body really is.

Massage is definitely a gift from the past handed down through generations of healing, and I think it is often very overlooked and underestimated as a form of treatment!
